At Visual Crossing, we are proud to be a trusted source of weather data to the academic and research communities. To help support students and members of the research community obtain accurate weather information, we offer our Academic plan to individuals who need historical weather data and weather forecast data.
I’m a student, how do I apply for this plan?
To obtain the academic discount, please sign up for Visual Crossing Weather Data using a valid academic institution email account (.edu or international equivalent). Once you have signed up, please contact us using that same email address and describe how you will be using the data. Tell us a bit about your project and what results you expect to achieve with your. It doesn’t have to be more than a couple of paragraphs, but please make sure that it is something that we can post on our website.
Please note that we cannot accept Academic plan requests from non-academic email accounts.
Are there any restrictions to the use of the data?
The use of our weather data in general is covered under our standard License Terms,. Aside from a strict commercial use restriction, we do not restrict the use of the data for academic purposes outside of the normal plan restrictions. You will have full access to the historical weather data, weather forecast data, and data download and weather API.
Data acquired under and academic license cannot be used for commercial purposes. Also, Visual Crossing should be given credit as the source of the data in any papers, content, etc. that may be produced using the data. If we detect extremely high usage, we may contact you to discuss if there’s a more efficient way that we can help you obtain the data you need.
I represent a university department and would data for multiple students. Can I use this plan?
The academic discount program listed here is only available for individual students or researchers. Please contact us us to discuss how we can help you best support your class or research team.
